Vietnam enters the ‘big playing field’ determined to bring net emissions to “0”

Mr. Ha also said that after COP26, in high-level meetings and in other forms, the United Nations and development partners during discussions with Vietnamese ministries and sectors expressed their willingness to willing to participate in cooperation and support Vietnam to achieve the goal of net zero emissions and energy transition.

In particular, partners such as the United Nations, the European Commission and development partners include the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, Japan, China, Korea, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Netherlands, USA; WB, ADB, IFC, WWF, UNDP, NDC partner (NDCP)… are expected to be ready to support Vietnam in energy transition and renewable energy; building and perfecting institutions, policies, strategies, master plans and plans; carbon market development.

The partners also pledged to support Vietnam in inventorying and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; capacity building and technology transfer; financial support, experts; support activities to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.

On the Vietnamese side, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said that after the COP26 conference, the Government, the Prime Minister, and the head of the national steering committee to implement Vietnam’s commitments at the COP26 conference have indicated directing ministries and branches to implement activities such as: Deploying and updating the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2022; develop and publish a report on the potential of offshore wind and wave energy in Vietnam’s seas; focus on building the National Strategy on Climate Change 2050; activity program on green energy transformation…

At the conference, the representative of the European Union said that financial mechanisms and policies to mobilize capital play a very important role, thereby creating a premise for the development of future goals, especially the support technical and economic.

The representative of the World Bank in Vietnam also said that this is a journey with many difficulties, many new factors, many challenges and opportunities in the implementation of the goal of achieving “zero” net emissions. and energy conversion.

According to the report on climate change, Vietnam needs to have specific numbers to be able to mobilize resources from different parties at a reasonable cost.
